Als het gaat om gezond eten, kun je beter kiezen voor groenten dan voor vlees. Maar o, wat is het soms moeilijk om die sappige biefstuk of die malse gebraden kip te laten staan.

Steeds meer voedings- en gezondheidsexperts adviseren een flexitarisch eetpatroon. Dat betekent dat minimaal de helft van wat je eet bestaat uit groenten en plantaardige eiwitten. Doordat je meer groenten en volkorengranen eet, krijg je meer vezels binnen – en veel mensen hebben daaraan een tekort.

Er zijn veel goede redenen om te kiezen voor een flexitarisch eetpatroon. Je verkleint daarmee het risico van hoge bloeddruk, je cholesterolwaarden worden beter en je bouwt een betere bescherming op tegen kanker en diabetes type 2. En dan hebben we het nog niet eens gehad over je gewicht: onderzoek wijst uit dat mensen die plantaardig eten, minder wegen dan vleeseters.
