Once you can recognize yourself as your prime competitor, you are poised to move to new levels.
Having a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) is all about how you treat yourself and what your mind is capable of achieving. To accomplish goals in life, a PMA is key. To cultivate a PMA, you must focus on yourself.
Get positive. I’m always telling my clients to seek out positive people, but you must also seek it within yourself. With a busy family life, it can be easy to take care of yourself last or not at all. Find a few positive affirmations that inspire and focus you. Take a few minutes every morning to repeat those affirmations out loud to yourself. Need help getting started? Check out some of my favorite affirmations.
Go deeper. When is the last time you sat down to focus on your own motivation? Whether you want to be a positive role model for your family or live a long and healthy life, being completely keyed into your motivation is essential to radiating a PMA and realizing your goals.
Bring others along. PMAs are contagious! If taking time for yourself feels like time you’re not spending on work, family or other commitments, that’s simply not true. Finding your own joy means you can spread joy to others and help bring it out in those you love.
Take ownership of you. Most days, you’re probably taking ownership of many aspects of your life. If you’re giving it your all in other areas of your life, such as work or taking care of family, give yourself permission to own yourself again. Take just one thing you’ve been meaning to do for yourself – whether that’s trying a new exercise class or just taking a long walk – and make it happen.
Make yourself a habit. It takes 21 days to create a new habit, and that’s true for positive thinking and personal time too. Being the best version of you doesn’t happen overnight, so stick with it! Take time for yourself every day, whether it’s a 10-minute high-intensity workout or a cup of tea.
Why be average when you can be awesome? You can be awesome at any age and in any situation (ok, most situations). Treating yourself means taking care of yourself. Go ahead and give yourself permission to take the time you need to be the very best version of you.
